Potential of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) fumigant for control of mill and wood infesting pests
Original language description
Gaseous hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is one of the few fumigation alternatives to the banned ozone depleting chemical methyl bromide (MBr). In the Czech republic it is registered formulation Urgan D2. This article brings new information on penetration of HCN into wood and biological efficacy of HCN on mill infesting pests (Red flour beetle) and wood infesting long horn beetle larvae of (House longhorn beetle, and Asian longhorned beetle). We found 100% mortality of larvae of H. bajulus and A. glabripennis forHCN 20 g/m3 (1, 3 and 6-hour exposure). We documented high (ovicide) HCN efficacy on Tribolium castaneum eggs while the most tolerant stadium was pupa.
