Přeštice pigs as a genetic resource
Original language description
In the last ten years a population size of Přeštice pigs was gradually reduced. It was particularly caused by their high backfat thickness and consequently the low carcass value. In 1997 a special breeding programme was developed. Average daily gain frombirth to end of the field test, lean meat percentage, and ultrasonic backfat thickness have been recorded in gilts and young boars. Even though the performance in PC GR is relative sable there is an evident preference of young boars with higher lean mear lean meat percentage.
