Hydrophobically Modified Celluloses: Preparation, Structure and Application
Original language description
Cellulose is the most abundant organic material in the Earth. This polysaccharide has been used for preparing of various derivatives of medicinal importance. Among them, oxidized monocarboxy cellulose (MCC) and/or carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) have many applications including food, pharmacy, medicinal materials, cosmetics etc. Both MCC and CMC contain reactive carboxylic groups and thus may undergo further chemical modifications involving carboxyls to obtain novel perspective derivatives. This work is focused on methyl esterification and following amidation of MCC and CMC with various amidation reagents. Methyl esters were prepared by reaction of mentioned polysaccharides with methanol at acidic conditions. Then obtained methyl esters were used for amino-de-alkoxylation with primary amines, hydrazine and hydroxylamine reagents. Another approach included one-step microwave-assisted amidation of MCC or CMC by the same reagents. Substitution and purity of the reaction products were monitor
