Effect of social environment on corticosterone concentration in captive red deer males (Cervus elaphus)
Original language description
Red deer (Cervus elaphus) males associate in bachelor groups out of the rut. In these groups the males compete for rank position by means of agonistic interactions. This results in modification of hormonal concentrations. Based on our previous studies, we hypothesized that a male living in a group of equally sized companions should have higher corticosterone concentrations than when living either in a group of weaker youngsters or when being alone in a pen.
