Selection of Suitable Model for Estimation of Genetic Parameters of Insect Bite Hypersensitivity
Original language description
Insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH) is a recurrent allergic skin disease and is the most common allergic disease affecting horses worldwide. The main symptoms are pruritus (itchiness), scaling, and hair loss. Afflicted animals could be absolutely unfit for any performance. As effective treatment with allergen-specific immunotherapy remains elusive, genetic improvement is a desirable course of action. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic parameters of IBH in the Old Grey Kladruber horse. Statistical analyses for the characteristics of IBH data were performed by application of a linear logistic model with a binary response variable, which was modelled as a binomial random variable.
