The genus Pinus L., pines: contribution to knowledge. A monograph with cone drawings of all species of the world by Ludmila Businská.
Original language description
Research of the taxonomy and biogeography of the genus Pinus carried out by the author in more than 25 years of continued study is summarized. All 43 Eurasian species including all its subspecies and 28 Mexican species of pines were studied and collectedin their natural populations. One species from Mexico and one subspecies and two varieties of pines from Eurasia are newly described along with six infrageneric taxa; three nomenclatural changes and two typifications are proposed. A survey of all accepted species and infraspecific taxa of Eurasian pines is given with a list of localities of studied natural populations. A system classifying the rarity of species and subspecies of the genus Pinus on a worldwide scale was developed using five criteria with point assessment; 32 pages of colour photos from natural populations of the 17 rarest pines of the world are included.
