Current knowledge on koi herpesvirus (KHV): a review

Original language description

Since 1998 the outbreaks of disease caused by koi herpesvirus (KHV) has been reported from all over the world. At present, this viral disease is considered to be one of the most risky factors affecting populations of common carp and koi carp. The viruswas isolated from the tissues of fish showing signs of the disease (disorientation, high breathing frequency, swollen gills) and subsequently cultured on koi fin cells (KF-1). Morphplogical signs of the virions are identical with viruses of the familyHerpesviridae. Analysis of virion polypeptides and gene DNA revealed the differences between KHV and the well-known herpesvirus of cyprinids-Herpesvirus cyprini(CHV) and Channel catfish virus (CCV). At present, diagnosis of KHV is mainly based ondetection ofviral DNA by PCR method. In the Czech Republic the KHV infection has not been reported yet.

Současné poznatky o Koi herpes viru (KHV): review

Czech description

Ohniska nákazy způsobené koi herpesvirem (KHV) jsou od roku 1998 hlášena po celém světě. V současné době je výše uvedené onemocnění považováno za jeden z nejrizikovějších faktorů způsobující ztráty v chovech kaprů a koi kaprů. Virus byl izolován z tkáníryb vykazujících příznaky onemocnění(desorientace, zvýšená frekvence dýchání, zduřelá žábra ) následně byl kultivován na buněčné kultuře KF-1. Morfologické znaky virionů jsou shodné s viry čeledi Herpesviridae. Analýzou virionových polypeptidů a genomovéDNA byly zjištěny rozdíly mezi KHV a již známými herpesviry kaprů - Herpesviróza kaprů (CHV) a Herpesviróza sumečků skvrnitých (CCV). Diagnostika je v současné době založena na detekci virové DNA metodou PCR. V České republice KHV onemocnění zatím nebylozjištěno.
