Spread of plasmid mediated resistance to colistin via food chain
Original language description
This study was conducted to detect the occurrence of mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3, mcr-4 and mcr-5 genes in selected food from retail, animals and environment of the Czech Republic. Although tested samples from food animals (cattle, poultry, pigs, goats) were negative for mcr genes, high prevalence of plasmid mediated colistin resistance was revealed in raw meat products from retail. Poultry raw meat products especially from turkey (from Poland, Germany, Brazil and Czech Republic) were most often positive for mcr-1 gene. Our findings indicate considerable global dissemination of gram negative bacteria carrying mcr genes via trade with food or environment.
