    Antimicrobial resistance in farm environments

  • Original language description

In this chapter, basic aspects of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) such as mechanisms, genetics and modes of transfer are described. As mobile elements are key drivers of increasing AMR, a brief introduction of the most important genetic structures is presented. Zoonotic pathogens found in livestock are of increased public health concern and are introduced using the One Health perspective. The linkage between AMR, bacterial taxa and consumption of antibiotics in farming is discussed. The chapter also covers several environmental aspects of AMR in relation to food production.
