Licensing regulations for diabetes and driving-Two sides of the same coin?
Original language description
The article highlights the absence of any legislation regulating driving licensing for people with diabetes in the Gulf region, and the urgent need to introduce standards for the assessment of medical fitness to drive. Although legislation has been enacted in most European countries following the 3rd European Union (EU) Directive on Driving, adoption and implementation of these regulations remains heterogeneous, with different approaches being taken by EU states. To illustrate these discrepancies we draw attention to two examples from Europe, in which a seemingly different approach in terms of implementation has both positive and negative connotations.
