Loss of fluid through the digestive tract still remain one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. It is about 1.8 million deaths of children <5 years per year. In the 50 and 60 of the last century, the diarrhea contributed significantly to infant mortality in the former Czechoslovakia, which was more than 70 percent. It was mainly diarrhea caused by pathogenic strains of E. coli. Diarrhea used to be the most common reason for admission of children to hospital and treatment oftenconsisted of parenteral fluid.
