Diabetes and driving safety in India: The internet as a valuable source of information
Original language description
We read with interest the article by Waris et al., "Attitudes to driving among patients with diabetes mellitus in Punjab (ADD-Punjab study)", published in Primary Care Diabetes. Information about attitudes to driving was obtained from 150 people with diabetes (34 % of whom were taking insulin and 66% secretagogues). Around 4% of people receiving therapies that can induce hypoglycemia, experience a road traffic incident every year, but only 32% were aware that hypoglycemia posed a risk to driving, and 88.6% never measured their blood glucose before driving. The authors highlighted the need for effective education for drivers with diabetes on glucose-lowering treatment.
