Reconstruction of the Riding Saddle Used in Great Moravia in the 8th–9th Centuries
Original language description
The aim of the report is to describe an experimental based on archaeological finds, resulting in a functional model of the saddle used in Great Moravi in the end of the 8th – to the 9th centuries, including verification of its riding properties, The saddle was reconstructed on the basis of discoveries of Avar and Hun saddles which werw adopted by Slavs. The reconstruction of an early medieval riding saddle was successfully performed. Based on the 3D projection of the saddle tree onto the Great Moravian finds, it was proved, with high probality, that a similar shape of saddle could have been used by the Slavs. The riding properties were tested for practicality and the saddle fulfils its function very well.
