Combinations of common polymorphisms within GSTA1 and GSTT1 as a risk factor for psoriasis in a central European population: a case-control study

  • Original language description

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with a strong genetic background substantially affecting skin response to environmental factors. Inadequate response to external stimuli may lead to skin inflammation and psoriasis onset. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are candidate enzymes important for cellular protection against oxidative stress. Genetic polymorphisms in GST isoenzymes have been demonstrated to alter their expression and function, thereby contributing to increased susceptibility to inflammatory diseases and interindividual differences in response to xenobiotics.
