CHARACTERISATION OF Zn, Fe-C AND Co-C FIXED POINTS BUILT AT CMI
Original language description
A set of three fixed points, two metal-carbon eutectic points Fe-C and Co-C and one Zn fixed point were constructed at CMI. These points were selected to improve actual measurement and calibration capabilities in radiation thermometry, in case of eutectic points also in thermocouple thermometry. Fixed point of Zn is used as a fourth point in calibration of linear pyrometer LP5 with InGaAs detector working at wavelength 1.569 μm within temperature range approx. (230 to 1100) °C. Thermometer used to be calibrated in fixed points of Sn, Al and Cu, but result in lower temperature range were unsatisfied due to low signal response of the thermometer. Signal received during calibration of thermometer as Sn fixed point was too noisy, therefore calibration uncertainty at this point was higher than 1 °C. To compare, uncertainty calibration at Al and Cu point is lower than 0.2 °C. This state was unacceptable, therefore it was decides to construct Zn fixed point to improve measurement capabilities in lower temperature range. Eutectic points serves as an alternative to the realisation of the ITS-90 above 961.78 °C. It leads to the reduction of extrapolation error at higher temperatures and allows interpolation between several fixed points. At the beginning, Fe-C and Co-C were chosen to construct and implement into the CMIs laboratory. They are used for dissemination of traceability for radiation thermometers and thermocouples. Inside this paper, design of the constructed cells will be presented, together with their characterisation. For metal-carbon eutectic points, furnace effect was also investigated together with influence of different temperature steps on value of the fixed point realisation.
