The prediction and probability for successful completion in medical study based on tests and pre-admission grades
Original language description
The study describes admission procedures at the largest school of medicine in the Czech Republic. It is based on the 1999 data of 383 students admitted that year, 163 of them failed and 220 succeeded in finishing the study. By use of Pearsons correlations between predictors, cluster analysis and logistic regression we show that preadmission grades predict the overall success in medical study with the same accuracy as admission tests but they describe different dimensions of students abilities. Simultaneous use od GPA and AT in the admission process of all student should bring higher quality to the selection and also practical advantages for future analyses. Nevertheless, the idea of having a group of the students admitted based only on an excellent GPAcould be considered quite reasonable.
