The COMT Val158Met polymorphism is associated with novelty seeking in Czech methamphetamine abusers: Preliminary results

  • Original language description

Measurable traits of human personality may mark the predispostion to psychopathology. Increase novelty seeking plays an important role in the pathogenesis of substance abuse. Novelty seeking, one of the fundamental traits of the human temperament, is relate to dopamine. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is essential for dopamine inactivation. The aim of our study was to assess whether the COMT gene Val158Met functional polymorphism in patients dependent on methamphetamine is related to their novelty siiking score.

Polymorfismus Val158Met genu pro COMT a novelty seeking u závislosti na pervitinu

  • Czech description

Některé měřitelné rysy lidské osobnosti predisponují k rozvoji určité psychopatologie. Zvýšená potřeba vyhledávat nové podněty (novelty seeking, NS) hraje významnou roli v etiopatogenezi závislosti na návykových látkách. Povahový rys NS má vztah k dopaminergní neurotransmisi. Catechol-O-methyltransferáza (COMT) je nezbytná při odbourávání dopaminu. Cílem naší práce bylo zjistit, zda funkční polymorfismus Val158Met genu pro COMT má vztah ke skóru NS u osob, závislých na pervitinu.
