Philosophy of As-If: Wellek, Vaihinger and Iser
Original language description
Although René Wellek consulted his Habilitationschrift Immanuel Kant in England (1931) with the German Neo-Kantian philosopher Hans Vaihinger, he was not inspired by the fundamental feature of his approach, a discursive and functional analysis of scientific and literary language based on his theory of fictions. This aspekt of Vaihinger's thought has been developed only by Wolfgang Iser in his new anthropological approach to culture interpreting fiction as an interface between the humans and the universe.
