The anonymous Poem "Carmen de martyrio Macchabaeorum" (4th-5th c. AD) narrates the martyr story in another way then its sources, Second and Fourth Book of Maccabees. The article tries to demostrate that the shift in perspective and the rhetorical emphasis could have been inspired by the story of Niobe in The Metamorphoses of Ovid.
