The Ontology of Style: Patočka's Reflections on Style in the Plastic Arts

  • Original language description

In this article, the author considers Jan Patočka's views on stylistic development in the plastic arts. First, the author looks at Patočka's intepretations of the views of earlier theoretists of style, particularly Johann Joachim Winckelmann and Alois Riegl. Next, the author concentrates on Patočka's emphasis on the usability of Roman Ingarden's conception of a work of art for the renewal of the investigations of style. Finaly, the author points to the influence of Martin Heidegger's conception of the truth of a work of art on Patočka's considerations on style.
