Structure of conditional and (cor)relative clauses: New evidence from locality
Original language description
In this paper we argue that left-adjoined conditional/correlative clauses are CPs syntactically and propositional semantically, while string-identical, syntactically integrated free relatives are NPs syntactically and referential semantically. The evidence for this claim comes from locality - the former structures are transparent for A-bar extraction, while the latter structures are strong islands for extraction.
