Original language description

After introducing Czech Romanticism and the work of a leading Czech Romantic, Karel Hynek Mácha (1810-1836), the article focuses on the comparison of Mácha&apos;s representations of temporality in his notebook fragments and his key poem Máj (May, 1836) with those in the poetry of William Blake, Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley. While Mácha refers to time by a neologism &quot;mnohomohoucí čas&quot; (&quot;time of many powers&quot;) and the temporality of his works is distinctly anti-apocalyptic, Blake in Vala, or The Four Zoas, Byron in Cain and Shelley in Prometheus Unbound represent time in diverse apocalyptic modes. In contrast to their representations focusing on the end, revelations and transformations of time, Mácha&apos;s ironic rendering of temporality anticipates Nietzsche&apos;s thought of values and evaluation. It presents time as a Nietzschean &quot;value of values&quot; in relation to which all other values (such as eternity, reason or ideals) become paradoxical and lose their meaning.
