This paper is a brief introduction to Roman mythology, the lesser known part of the pair Greek and Roman mythology (more commonly called &quot;Classical mythology&quot;), one of the most popular courses at Departments of Classics worldwide. As opposed to its Greek counterpart, Roman mythology is closely bound to Roman history. The Roman gods and their myths are briefly presented here alongside an analysis of the foundation myth of Romulus and Remus. The exemplary nature of Roman myths is also discussed alongside Roman gods and heroes. The role of women is discussed in a separate chapter. Finally, a few local myths of the city of Rome show that the environment played a great role in the making of Roman mythology.
