The article highlights the ongoing acceptance of corporal punishment in the Czech Republic, both socially and culturally. Despite international calls for its prohibition, no explicit legal ban has been adopted in the family setting. Public opinion, as reflected in surveys, demonstrates that a significant portion of parents engage in or support corporal punishment, with 58% admitting to having used it and 35.7% considering it an integral part of child-rearing. This societal acceptance coincides with alarming statistics on child abuse, with estimates suggesting that between 280,000 and 367,000 children are at risk of family violence. Reports indicate that only a fraction of cases are detected and reported annually, further underscoring the gravity of the issue. The article explores the legislative framework governing corporal punishment, analyzing the extent to which current laws protect children in all settings, including the home. Additionally, it examines proposed legislation from 2023, alongside municipal enforcement practices, to evaluate whether the Czech Republic's claims of comprehensive child protection align with reality. By employing a mixed-methods approach, this research seeks to answer the question of whether Czech children are effectively protected from corporal punishment in their homes through existing laws and their application.
