P.F. Lazarsfeld and R.K. Merton collaborated since 1940 until 1976 at Columbia University in New York. They realized a unique model of cooperation of social theory, methodology and empirical social research. They founded together The Bureau of Applied Social Research - famous research institute. They wrote together six papers (including a book Continuities in Social Research) and developped some methodological tools for combined use of analytical and qualitative methodology in mixed design.
