Getting Down to Genre Business
Original language description
This editorial suggests that there is still a great deal of work to be done into understanding how the concept of genre operates in the film industry. I suggest that our limited understandings of the topic are product of scholars positing symptomatic explanations, which link film trends to extra-industrial social phenomena, and of a recent surge in reception studies that examine how indiduals use genre labels at the level of consumption.
