Protection of the rights of national minorities in the Czech Republic as a prevention of ethnic conflict? The case of the Vietnamese
Original language description
The article examines the impact of ethnic minority policies on both minorities and inter-ethnic relations in the Czech Republic with a focus on the case of Vietnamese. The argument is that rather than improving relations between the majority and minorities, minority policies may at times make interethnic relations worse. In order to prevent ethnic conflict more effectively, it is suggested that instead of the broad one-size-fits-all concept of minority protection policymakers should identify more sensitive policies tailored to the needs of particular minorities or completely dissociated from protection of persons belonging to national minorities.
