Since the beginning of the Cognitive Revolution, lingusitics has dealt with language - as it has most cognitive functions - without consideration of the role of emotions. This book brings to bear the work done on emotions during the last decade (Pribram,Damasio, Oatley, etc.) and develops the argument that emotions play a crucial role in language, from the level of brain functions, up to and including the level of culture and literature.

Od počátku Kognitivní revoluce se lingvistika zabývala jazykem bez ohledu na roli emocí - poněvadž má v nejvyšší míře kognitivní funkce. Tato kniha se zaměřuje na práce v oblasti emocí z posledního desetiletí (Pribram, Damasio, Oatley a d.) a rozvíjí argument, že emoce hrají v jazyce zásadní úlohu, od úrovně mozkových funkcí až po rovinu kultury a literatury včetně.
