God's (Non)Presence, Interdependence, and Hope in The Last of Us: A Theological Reflection
Original language description
In the post-apocalyptic landscape of the HBO series The Last of Us, it is no easy task to find images, or even, traces of God's presence. God seems not to be present in that bleak world. However, even instances of divine non-presence can be telling and theologically nourishing. This chapter explores three such images, focusing on the themes of power dynamics in the relationships within human communities, the distorted imago Dei, and queer romance. Engaging dialogue partners from the fields of postcolonial, feminist, and queer theologies, this paper will seek to reflect on how these images can engender, or else disable, hope.
