    Voltammetric Detection of Monoamine Neurotransmitters in a Neurobasal Medium

  • Original language description

    The possibility of electroanalytical detection of important neurotransmitters - dopamine and serotonin - in a neuron cultivation medium on boron-doped diamond electrodes was studied and confirmed. The presence of both analytes manifested as a peak on a differential pulse voltammogram within +300 - +450 mV vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode. Limits of detection as low as 0.2 and 2.0 μM for serotonin and dopamine, respectively, were achieved. The performance of oxidized and polished electrode surfaces was compared. Mechanical polishing resulted in ca. twofold lower limits of detection, but lower reproducibility of measurements at higher concentrations.
