    This work reviews the progress achieved in the field of organic film growth with the emphasis set on the early stages of the film formation. Furthermore, the first results are presented on the island-type PVD growth of ultra-thin poly(ethylene) films. Applicability of the already existing theories to description of dynamic phenomena is discussed.
