Calibration of High-resolution Spectrometer for C III Triplet Measurements

Edge poloidal plasma rotation and ion temperature at the COMPASS tokamak is planned to be calculated from high-resolution spectroscopic measurements of the carbon III triplet at 465 nm. For these purposes a two-grating spectrometer was provided by Instituto de Plasmas e Fusao Nuclear, Lisboa, Portugal [Gomes et al., 2003; Sokolova et al., 1997].. The light diffracted by the spectrometer is detected by a spectroscopic camera equipped with a CCD chip. In order to interpret the measured C III spectra correctly the system has to be spectrally calibrated. Therefore calibration spectra produced by a Fe hollow cathode lamp are measured. The analysis of the measured calibration spectra provides the calibration function and instrumental line broadening caused by the spectrometer. In this paper the design of the spectrometer is introduced and the calibration procedure is elaborated together with analysis of the calibration spectra, calculation of the calibration function and instrumental width.
