Learning using mentors: Evaluating impact through the eyes of non-mentors
Original language description
In this paper, we address the implementation of the Learning Using Mentors (LUM) method in physics lessons at upper-secondary level. The method has been piloted and under analysis for four years at a selective grammar school in Kadan, Czech Republic. Its essence lies in appointing a group of so-called mentors who are given certain responsibilities in the classroom. In addition to their duty to help others during regular physics lessons, they also review material in dedicated mentor sessions, design and grade school tests, assist with experiments, and more. Their role could more aptly be described by the term "little teacher". Simultaneously, both quantitative and qualitative research is being conducted. In this paper, we focus on data collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire from the "non-mentors", i.e., the students who are intended to benefit from the method.
