Original language description
This thesis aims to conduct a comparative analysis of three novels that seek to convey the horrors of World War II to readers through the theme of concentration camps: The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, Born Survivors by Wendy Holden, and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. The theoretical introduction will provide a brief characterization of the depiction of World War II in English and American literature. Separate chapters will introduce the authors and the basic plots of the stories. Subsequent chapters will focus on the characters including prisoners and war criminals. The thesis will also address how fiction is intertwined with reality in these novels. Lastly, the thesis will examine the similarities and differences in portraying concentration camps in the novels for adult readers (Morris and Holden) and in the story aimed at children (Boyne).
