Non-standard cultural assignments of word problems: 6th graders' preferences and performance
Original language description
The presented paper develops research of the authors in which they were studying the impact of culturally non-standard assignments on 6th graders performance. Here the authors ask what the pupils' preferences will be if given the option to choose from two mathematically equal but culturally different word problems. Are they more likely to go for the challenge of something unusual or will they prefer to solve the task assigned in the most stereotypical way? Will this choice have any impact on their performance? The research shows that most affected is the error rate.
