Teacher education in the Czech Republic: Recent Developments and Future Prospects
Original language description
This chapter analyses the past thirty years of teacher education in the Czech Republic, in the light of global trends, and outlines possible issues and opportunities for future development. Beginning with a historical and political context, we then present the current structure of teacher education in the Czech Republic, with a view to innovation and the future-as framed by the priorities set out in EU calls. At present, Czech legislation defines the conditions for the continuous professional development of teachers, but, due to the absence of an established career system, this is one of the challenges that the country also faces today. The final recommendations in this chapter emphasise the need to train graduates in practical teaching skills alongside theoretical reflection.
