Investigating Aspects of Academic Discourse

This monographs explores English-written academic discourse and focuses on three standards of textuality - intertextuality, coherence and informativity. These standards meet in the Global Theme, which is grasped there uniquely as a cluster of relevant features embodied by titles, keywords, and their in-text use, and developed through academic subgenres, paragraph themes and relevant citations. The monograph profiles stylistic, text-linguistic and discourse analyses of authentic data with a balance between quantitative and qualitative research. It stems from the Prague functionalist tradition, enriched by modern approaches from world linguistics.
