Motivation towards energy-saving behavior among students: An application of the theory of planned behavior
Original language description
Main objective of this paper is to present results of a case study that aimed at explanation of energy-saving behavior among university students. Empirical analysis is based on the conceptual framework of the theory of planned behavior. The data come from a survey a random sample of students (N=247) living in the dormitories Koleje 17. listopadu. The results of our study suggest that attitudes are the most important factors that influence the selected types of behavior among students. Social norms haveplayed a role only in the case of economic use of the cooker, while perceived social norms had no significant effect on any of the selected behaviors. Results of this study also indicate that students have enough information about energy-saving effects of the three types of proenvironmental behavior but that they do not attribute importance to the potential of energy savings attributable to these behaviors.
