Action potential voltage clamp analysis of rate-dependent changes of action potential in rat ventricular myocytes

  • Original language description

The main determinants of rate-dependent of action potential duration in rat ventricular myocytes are variations of the L-type calcium current ICa-L (gradual increase caused by modulatory effect of the Ca2+ transient) and the transient outward current Ito(decrease due to cumulative inactivation). These contemporary variations of ICa-L and Ito supported each other in the rate-dependent modulation of action potential prolongation. Under our experimental conditions, participation of other currents was negligible.
