Polymorhism of glutathione S-transferase M1, T1 and P1 in patients with reflux esophagitis and Barrett´s esophagus

  • Original language description

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzymes play an important role in cellular protection against oxidative stress and toxic foreign chemicals. So, we investigated the hypothesis that polymorphisms in genes for these detoxifying enzymes could influence susceptibility to RE and Barrett s esophagus. Methods: GSTM1, GSTT1 and GSTP1 loci were analyzed by PCR-based methods in 64 patients with RE (and additional group of 22 subjects with Barretts esophagus as 4th grade of esophagitis) and 173 unrelated controls. Results: There were no significant differences in the distributions of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genotypes between controls and patients with RE or Barrett s esophagus. Similarly, frequencies of GSTP1 alleles were non-significantly different between control and reflux esophagitis groups. Conclusions: GSTP1 gene might be one of the risk factors associated with susceptibility to reflux esophagitis, especially to Barrett s esophagus.

    Polymorfismy glutathionS-transferázy M1,T1 a P1 u pacietnůs refluxní esofagitidou a Barretovým jícnem

  • Czech description

Refluxní esofagitida a Barretův jícen jsou jedny z nejčastějších jícnových komplikací gastroezofageální refluxní choroby jícnu. Glutathion S transferázy hrají důležitou roli v buněčné ochraně proti oxidativnímu stresu a toxických chemikáliím. Přišli jsmes hypotézou, že polymorfismy v detoxifikačních genech mohou ovlivňovat vliv ke vzniku refluxní ezofagitidy a Barretova jícnu. Závěr: Přestože GSTM1 a GSTT1 neukázaly vztah k refluxní chorobě, gene GSTP1 by mohl být jedním z rizikových faktorů asociovaným s refluxní ezofagitidkou a Barretovým jícnem.
