    Some new facts about myopia

    Purpose: To report latest knowledge about near-sightedness and recommend a new treatment strategy. Methods: High myopia represent continuing problem in ophthalmology and Optometry. Author brings some new facts from literature and clinic studies. Results:From 25 ? 50% people in Europe, but 60 ? 100% people in Asia are myopic. There is distinct division between urban and rural areas. High myopia especially involves the macula and has serious complication e.g. choroidal neovascularisation, myopic chorioretinal atrophy, posterior staphyloma, neuropathy and high incidence of retinal detachment. Conclusion: prevalence of myopia present social, scientific, medical and political challenge. New finding, new technology, maybe refractive surgeries bring expectation to future myopia management.
