Relationship between genetic risk score for kidney function and diabetic kidney disease progression
Original language description
Background and aims: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a serious diabetic complication. Several risk factors contribute to the DKD development or progression (e.g. glucose control, hypertension, dyslipidaemia). Genetic predisposition also contributes to the total risk however it is still insufficiently explored. Recently, several genome-wide association studies (GWAS) identified a number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) associated with kidney function. We selected 9 SNPs and constructed a genetic risk score (GRS). The aim of the work was to find out whether GRS can predict the progression of DKD or cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with T2DM in the Czech population.
