Youth subcultures - Punk in the 21st Century
Original language description
This paper defines the punk subculture as a milieu for socialization of the youth. The research is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with seven young members of the punk subculture. Data analysis is based on the techniques of grounded theory of Strauss and Corbin. The results discuss punk from two perspectives. Firstly, it is discussed as a positive milieu for learning and self-development. This approach includes creation of music, magazines, fashion etc., but also its social involvement connected with human rights, animals rights and environmental protection. New values such as non-profit-making, social involvement and toleration are mentioned. Secondly, it is described as a negative milieu connected with social pathologies, such as drugs, aggression, social exclusion or stressful factors. Finally, main factors influencing adjunction, involvement and departure from the subculture are mentioned.
