Functional Reformulations: Czech Structuralism and Intralingual Translation
Original language description
While much theory is trying to be formative or normative and consolidate, define or in any other way fix its object (be it a thing or a process) ? its form, significance and its pragmatics ? what fascinates me and what I would like to focus on in this paper is the instability and void beyond. The theoretical endeavours which I will try to outline and articulate here have to do with the possibility of contemplating the non-existence of the theatre sign ? the unstable, the transitory or even the unspeakable. Though this is a somewhat metaphysical approach to the theatre, there arguably is justification for it when dealing with Czech Structuralist writings.
