Metapragmatics in media discourse: commenting on humour in live text commentary
Original language description
The talk addresses the issue of humour in written online sports commentary and the ways jokes, banter and other witty remarks are verbally introduced by the interlocutors. It proposes a pragmatic classification of such metacomments and considers the effect they have on the structuration of the speech event. Metacomments are interpreted as having a strong interpersonal orientation, helping to develop and sustain the dynamism of the secondary layer of narration that is found in some types of live text commentaries.
