Typology of Family Storytellers
Original language description
This poster addresses reading and telling fairy tales to reschool children in nowadays multigenerational families and looks for an answear to a question: How parents and grandparents from particular multigenerational families perceive their approach in reading and telling fairy tales to their preschool children? A qualitative research based on semistructured interviews with parents nad grandparents from four multigenerational families was held. Collected data were analyzed with the use of open coding and systematic comparison of individual utterances. Typology of family storytellers, consisting of four ideal types, was made. Each type, described by a metaphor, finds slightly different meaning in reading and telling fairy tales to preschool children: a Nurse perceives these activities as natural habit, a Teacher views them as necessary, a Sage perceives them as pleasant duty and a Jester rather as mutual fun and entertainment with the child.
