Decomposing groups : Experimental evidence from West Slavic derived collectives
Original language description
In this paper, we present experimental evidence for the existence of the scale of decomposability in West Slavic. The experiments investigated the interaction between 3 classes of derived nouns and so-called A-different expressions in Czech and Polish. Participants were asked to judge truthfulness of examples involving bare plurals, collective nouns, and distributive quantifier phrases and A-different expressions in contexts supporting strongly co-variating scenarios. The results show non-trivial semantic differences between different classes of derived collectives in both languages.
