Changes of Viticultural Landscape as a Result of Policy

  • Original language description

Wine is an integral part of Czech culture and therefore the wine countryside deserves our attention and protection. This cultural landscape has undergone a number of fundamental changes during the 20th century, which were primarily politically motivated. Within the framework of collectivization, the Czechoslovak agricultural landscape underwent one of the most notable changes. Apart from the vineyards themselves and its ecosystem, significant changes can be observed in the area of wine-growing buildings, which are still part of our cultural landscape. Changes in building materials stemmed from the necessary period needs, progress, but also a material shortage. The decoration of the wine-growing buildings was very widespread and the character of the wine-growing localities changed. In some places, the wine cellars were of a uniform character, elsewhere the cellars were individually decorated. The combination of a vineyard and a wine cellar together creates the typical character of traditional culture in the Moravian countryside.
