The World Internet Project is a worldwide project which aims at realising a long-term study examining the influence of computers, the Internet and related technologies on the individual, family and society. The project has been organised by the Center for the Digital Future at USC Annenberg in the USA. The Czech Republic has participated in the ?World Internet Project? since 2005. The submitted paper aims at presenting 10 fundamental trends in the Internet development in the USA, as stated in the American report from 2004 ?Ten Years, Ten Trends? (Cole et al, 2004). Furthermore, we intend to compare several basic characteristics of the Internet use in the USA and the Czech Republic; and finally, we are going to present the first results obtained withinthe Czech contribution to the project leading to the question mentioned in the article heading: ?The rise of the Internet generation??

Světový projekt o internetu je celosvětový projekt, který se zaměřuje na realizaci dlouhodobého výzkumu vlivu počítačů, internetu a příbuzných technologií na člověka, rodinu a společnost. Projekt je organizován v &quot;Center for the Digital Future&quot;v USC Annenberg v USA. Česká republika zahájila svou účast projektu v roce 2005. Předkládaný článek prezentuje 10 hlavních trendů rozvoje internetu v USA založených na americké zprávě z roku 2004 (Cole et al, 2004). Dále srovnáváme základní charakteristiky využívání internetu v ČR a USA a ukazujeme první výsledky českého projektu, které nás přivedly k otázce zmíněné v názvu článku: &quot;nastupuje internetová generace?&quot;.
