The Migration on the Roma from Slovakia to the Czech Republic

  • Original language description

This article reflects migration of Roma from Slovakia to the Czech Republic and describes current social situation of Roma in the Czech Republic, reasons behind their migration from Slovakia, and policies of the Czech Republic on integration. Current social status can be described by high rate of unemployment, low qualification, and by life in ethnically homogenous socially excluded enclaves. Author stresses that migration of Roma from Slovakia to the Czech Republic has not begun after the splitting ofthe Czechoslovakia, but it is lasting consistently since 1945. What have been changing, however, were reasons and course. Approaches of the Czech Republic toward integration of these migrants author characterizes especially in the course of the period after 1989. Author argues that social system of the Czech Republic did not focus sufficiently on integration in social and educational spheres.
